Volunteer
Become an EcoSociety Volunteer.
Volunteers are the backbone of our projects and they are critical to the success of our campaigns. Volunteering gives you the chance to make a difference and have fun at the same time. EcoSociety offers several projects and opportunities for anyone wanting to volunteer.
The first Tuesday of every month from 6 to 8pm, you can join EcoSociety volunteers for a work party! Support EcoSociety’s campaigns and projects in a fun and supportive atmosphere.

Membership
Become a Member of the EcoSociety or renew your membership for 2011.
Your generous support is what enables us to continue our great work. Memberships cost $40 for an individual, $60 for a family, $100 for a nonprofit organization, $225 for business, and $25 for fixed income/students. Payments can be dropped off, mailed in or completed online.

Who We Are
The West Kootenay Ecosociety is governed by a Board of Directors that set policies, oversee financial management, consider recommendations and provide direction to staff and volunteers.

History
The West Kootenay EcoSociety was founded in 1994 by a small group of concerned citizens. They were intent on developing an organization that would engage the community in moving towards a sustainable future, so they pooled their resources, rented office space, and began to work on protecting biodiversity in the region. Two years later the West Kootenay EcoSociety emerged as a not for profit organization with a mandate to actualize a local and regionally sustainable post-carbon society.
EcoCentric Radio
Join John Alton, Suzy Hamilton and Lee-Anne Unger for the EcoCentric, the weekly radio show focused on current environmental issues from the West Kootenays.
EcoCentric features interviews with activists, experts, government and industry providing information and a variety of perspectives on environmental and topics. Programs range in scope from deep ecology and conservation, climate change, food security, sustainability, social justice, politics and more.

Recycling
Read and Rethink. We promote the great three R's but add 2 more:
Read instructions when recycling so it gets done right.
Rethink purchases with excessive packaging or of cheap junk and imports. Shop farmers markets to buy high quality, local food and hand made crafts with no packaging.
Recycling is big business
We would like to see materials recycled here in the Kootenays by local people, for the benefit of local people, as opposed to being shipped around the world undermining one of the environmental purposes of recycling.
Composting is important and The EcoSociety is participating in an Earth Matters project for city-wide composting.
If you'd like to see more recycling in Nelson, please write a letter to city council.
